Background

As Vice President, Regional Underwriting Counsel for California and Hawaii, Kent develops underwriting standards, guidelines and procedures for policy-issuing agents. In addition, he serves as back-up Underwriting Counsel for Nevada, Washington, Oregon and Idaho, and conducts extensive training for agents through webinars and on-site presentations. Kent also works with NATIC’s Chief Underwriting Counsel to develop rate manuals for California and Hawaii.

Kent began his career in the title insurance business in 1983 as a customer service representative. He graduated to a title examiner position, then claims officer and finally claims counsel after passing the California Bar Examination. His prior experience includes 10 years as a claims attorney and seven years as General Counsel and Title Operations Manager for a leading national title insurance company’s Hawaii operations. After returning to California from Hawaii in 2011, Kent was Managing Attorney/Of Counsel for a real estate law firm before accepting his position with NATIC in 2012.

Receiving his Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from the University of California, Irvine, Kent earned his Juris Doctor degree from Western State University College of Law. He is a member of the State Bar of California and Orange County (CA) Bar Association, and serves on the California Land Title Association Forms and Practices Committee.
