As criminals get more creative when it comes to wire fraud, especially through cyber-security hacks, title agents need to be alert and remember “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” This course will cover common wire fraud scenarios, review preventative measures and discuss what to do in the event of wire fraud. We will also discuss what happens when there is a title claim due to wire fraud and things to look for in various types of insurance for the agent’s protection.

Chris McChesney, Esq.

As regional claims manager for North American Title Insurance Company and NATIC’s title company affiliate, North American Title Company, Chris McChesney oversees title and escrow claims and litigation across the country. After earning his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida and his Juris Doctor from the American University’s Washington College of Law, Chris began his career in real property law as a presidential management fellow for the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, where he worked on the conveyance of federal real property for homeless and public health purposes. He then completed a rotation as a title attorney with the Land Acquisition Section and Environment and Natural Resources Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. Prior to joining NATIC in 2018, Chris served as claims counsel for a top national underwriter. He is an active member of the American Land Title Association’s Title Counsel Committee.

S. David Schreiber, Esq.
Senior Claims Counsel
North American Title Insurance Company

As NATIC’s senior claims counsel, S. David Schreiber reviews and investigates title claims, evaluates loss and coordinates litigation strategy. His career in claims spans more than two decades, and he has created more than 40 continuing education presentations for title agents, real estate agents and attorneys on various topics involving title insurance and real property law. Prior to joining NATIC, David was associate general counsel for a large, regional title and escrow company, and senior claims counsel for a top national underwriter. David earned his Juris Doctor from the University of California Hastings College of Law and is a member of the state bar associations for California, Iowa and Nebraska. He is admitted to practice in the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, the federal court for the District of Nebraska, the Southern District of California, the Central District of California, the Eastern District of California and the Northern District of California.
